What the estimate leaves out
- The conversion does not include account fees. Confirm whether a published APY is before or after recurring charges.

When this model is unsuitable
Do not use the equivalent APR as a regulatory borrowing APR or assume it includes fees, insurance, points, or transaction costs. It is not a loan payment rate finder when cash flows and charges must be incorporated. It cannot convert a yield based on irregular dates, changing balances, tiered rates, promotional periods, or interest that does not remain in the account. It is unsuitable for comparing products solely by nominal APR because the compounding frequency must remain attached and effective APY is usually clearer for one year deposits. Do not enter nominal APR in the APY field, since the inversion then answers the wrong question. The calculator does not adjust for tax or inflation and cannot evaluate liquidity, credit, or currency risk. Extremely high or negative rates may be mathematically defined but unlike actual product conventions.
A consistent comparison method
Use APY as the common effective measure when comparing one year deposit yields. Convert to nominal APR only where another calculation or disclosure requires that basis. For each product, record APY, equivalent APR, compounding frequency, reference balance, fees, rate tier, term, and access conditions. Keep balance and observation date identical. Verify that converting the equivalent APR back at the same frequency reproduces the original APY. Do not compare monthly APR for one account with annual APR for another without conversion. If one published APR includes fees and another is only a nominal interest rate, label them as different measures rather than placing them in one ranking. Compare net annual interest after known fees and tax separately. Use rate conversion to remove a quotation mismatch, then make the decision from effective return and product conditions. Data and source checklist

Edge cases to inspect
At zero APY, equivalent APR and annual interest are zero for every frequency. Under annual compounding, APR equals APY. For a fixed positive APY, increasing frequency lowers equivalent nominal APR toward a limit. A zero reference balance produces zero annual interest but does not affect the rate conversion. APY must stay above minus one hundred percent because a total loss creates a zero growth base and lower values are not meaningful. Negative APY values above that limit imply a negative nominal rate, but real products may calculate charges differently. Very high APY can make rounding differences large. Daily frequency assumes equal periods and does not reproduce every calendar convention.
